Images of non-copyrighted works

Medals whose maker has been deceased for more than 70 years or – if the maker is unknown – were made public more than 70 years ago are no longer subject to copyright. Similarly, coins and banknotes (legal tender) are no longer subject to copyright from 70 years after their first publication. Images of such works in the NNC database may be freely used without permission.

We would appreciate it if you use the following naming convention when doing so:

National Numismatic Collection, De Nederlandsche Bank

Images of copyrighted works

Medals whose maker (if known) has been deceased for less than 70 years are subject to copyright. Pictoright has issued licenses for many of these copyrighted works to be shown in our database. Visual artists who are not affiliated to Pictoright and believe they have copyright claims to certain images may contact us at info.nnc@dnb.nl.

To use copyrighted images outside the NNC database, you must obtain prior permission from the copyright holder, unless a statutory exception applies, such as non-commercial use for personal practice or study. This means that you are personally responsible and liable when you share or publish images of copyrighted works. De Nederlandsche Bank N.V. is not liable for the use of these images beyond consulting them in the database.

Banknotes issued by De Nederlandsche Bank N.V. are copyrighted by DNB. The use of images of these banknotes is subject to these conditions (Dutch).
