A feminist approach to the economy is, according to Holten, necessary for a fairer society.

In her new book Shortage, Holten argues that the economy is not neutral but a battleground of power relations. She shows how dominant economic ideas, rooted in the Enlightenment, still shortchange women today. Her book is a radical call to place care – often undervalued and invisible – at the center of economic models and our daily thinking.

Holten's vision challenges and prompts reflection. Everyone who has ever given or received care should, according to her, ask themselves how we can build a society where care is not seen as a side issue. An important perspective, and reason enough to attend this discussion in De Nieuwe Schatkamer on May 14!

This Brainwash Book Club XL is a collaboration between Brainwash Festival and the Dutch Central Bank and takes place in De Nieuwe Schatkamer.
