Date: 16 June
Time: 16:00 - 17:00

The Netherlands recently acquired a quantum computer. What can such a computer do, and what are the implications for our financial system? ‘Quantum computers threaten the security of our data’, and ‘Quantum computer to crack cybersecurity’. Just two recent newspaper headlines. There are many concerns about the power of quantum computers and our cybersecurity. Hackers could use this technology to defeat encryption, including the encryption of our payment system. At the same time, quantum computers may actually make for a more secure network. We will talk about these topics with Christiaan Schaffner, Professor of Theoretical Computer Science at the University of Amsterdam, and Jan van Rooij, Senior Information Security Officer at De Nederlandsche Bank.
