Artist Anouk van Zwieten (1991)
Title Untitled
Year 2018
Material Oil on canvas
About the work Due to its small size – 10 x 20 cm – and vibrant colours, this painting invites you to take a closer look. What happens if you gaze at it for a while? Does the depiction remind you of anything or, on the contrary, does it remain elusive? And is the atmosphere really as pleasant as the bright colours suggest?
About the artist Van Zwieten’s paintings bear traces of her personal life and experiences, but are also where new ideas, associations and forms come together. While painting, she creates the colourful depictions with whimsical shapes that characterise her work. They seem elusive at first glance, but just as suddenly something very tangible, like a cigarette or an egg, can appear. Van Zwieten graduated in 2017 from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, where she still lives and works.
In the collection Acquired in 2018. This is the only work by Van Zwieten in the collection. A year earlier, her work was included in De Nederlandsche Bank’s Artspotting 2017 exhibition, which featured works by artists who, like Van Zwieten, graduated from Dutch art schools in 2017.
